Apara Kriya – Post Death Ceremonies

google promotions agency in navi mumbai

Our Dharma Shastras have proclaimed “Matr Devo Bhava, Pitr Devo Bhava” (be one to whom the Mother & Father is a deity). We must treat our parents with respect and do all we can do to keep them happy and in comfort. We cannot compensate them for all the sacrifices they have made for us. After they depart from this mortal world, we must without fail offer libations to them and perform their post death ceremonies as prescribed in the scriptures.

It is thefore the duty of every son to perform the post death ceremonies as prescribed in the scriptures with faith and reverence. In their subtle form after death, the departed soul can quench their thirst and satisfy its hunger only through the libations offered by their son. Else, it is said that they would suffer immensely of thirst and hunger. Hence, the lord himself has extolled the merits of performance of these rites in the Garuda Purana. It also has a well furnished spacious hall on the First floor (which can accomodate upto 350 persons) for holding condolence meetings. A water WELL has also been nicely constructed at the centre of the building; the water from which can be used in the rites. The centre also has enough public convenience facilities including hot water, to cater to the people staying and for those who come for kriyas to take bath. A neat and safe Pinda disposal unit has been thoughtfully developed for every day use.

Services of Priest / Acharayas could be made available, if required. Please contact our Office for the same.

The centre is run on a no loss no profit basis and has been getting very good response as this center provides everything at one place and eliminates the need of going all the way to Nasik or Kashi to conduct rituals.

Post Death Rituals & Ceremonies :

It’s important to note that Apara Kriya rituals vary across different Hindu communities and may be influenced by regional customs, family traditions, and the guidance of priests or spiritual advisors. These ceremonies hold significant spiritual and emotional importance for Hindus, as they believe in the continuity of the soul’s journey beyond physical death and the interconnectedness with their ancestors.

The Apara Kriya typically includes several rituals and ceremonies conducted over a specific period, which may vary based on regional customs and family traditions. Some common elements of Apara Kriya include:

Antyeshti (Last Rites)

This is the final farewell ceremony where the body of the deceased is cremated or buried according to Hindu customs. Mantras are chanted, and specific rites are performed during this process.

Pinda Daan

This is a ritual where offerings of cooked rice or flour balls (pinda) are made to the deceased person to ensure their well-being in the afterlife. It is believed that by performing Pinda Daan, the soul receives blessings and support in its journey.

Kriya Karama

These are various rites and rituals performed by the family members to mark the mourning period and to support the departed soul’s journey. This may include practices like observing specific vows, avoiding certain activities, and conducting prayers and offerings.

Shraadh (Ancestor Rituals)

Shraadh ceremonies are performed periodically after the death (e.g., annually) to honor and remember the departed soul. Offerings such as food, water, and prayers are made to the ancestors during these rituals.

Tarpana

Tarpana involves offering water and prayers to ancestors during specific times, such as during eclipses or on particular lunar days (Amavasya). It is done to seek blessings and express gratitude to departed ancestors.
