About Us

The human birth is hailed as the most important as it can lead to permanent release from the cycle of births and deaths. Our Sastras prescribe forty samskaras (purificatory rites) of which Apara kriyas (post death ceremonies) and Sraadham performed for one’s parents are some of the most essential samskaras. The Apara kriya and sraadham performed by his son play a very helpful and positive role.

Sensing the need for conducting these rites for families in cities like Mumbai & Navi Mumbai and with constraint of space and finance being the main problem, the idea for a center was mooted.

Thus South Indian Welfare Association was born in August 1996, and was subsequently registered under Society’s act 1860 as a charitable trust under the Public Trust Act 1950, in April 1997. Intitially to start with, like minded persons along with Pundits, Acharyas took up the tasks of conducting monthly Homas, Pujas, Japas, and also Maha Rudra Yagnas, to garner support from the public and also build up a corpus to start with. A plot of land admeasuring 580 Sq. Mtrs. at Kopar Khairne Navi Mumbai was purchased from CIDCO in 2000.

The foundation stone for the center was laid by His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamiji on 28th. December 2000.

With spontaneous and munificent contributions from numerous well wishers and philanthropist , a beautiful building named SAAYUJYAM was constructed in a short span of time. Eight rooms in the ground floor and four on the 1st. floor along with a huge hall for conducting Condolences, Baitaks etc. and a centrally located water well was thrown open to the public in May 2002.

The Center is being run on “no Profit No Loss” basis so as to cater to all strata of society and families using them have appreciated our services.

OUR OBJECTIVES

South Indian Welfare Association was founded in August 1996, and has been registered under Society’s act 1860 and as a charitable trust under the Public Trust Act 1950, in April 1997.

When someone in the family dies, the post death ceremonies are performed by every Hindu family with great faith and reverence, as laid down in Dharma Sastras. Unfortunately for people living in big cities like Navi Mumbai, it is not possible to perform the rites in their own homes due to constraints of space and finance. The available centres for this purpose are located far away. Hence the imperative need for such a centre in Navi Mumbai was felt.

Performing APARA KRIYAS

The main objective of the Association is: To establish a centre for performing APARA KRIYAS (post death ceremonies) in Navi Mumbai.

One-Stop Solution for Essential Cremation Materials

It is also proposed to provide a counter at the centre, for supply of all materials required for cremation (except items available at cemetery) under one roof and at reasonable cost. Presently, these items are to be collected from several places, which is inconvenient.

Hindu Values: Embracing Righteous Living

To instill , propagate and promote the high values for leading righteous lives as prescribed in the Hindu tradition and extolled by the Vedas and Scriptures.

Educational Assistance Program

To render assistance to the economically weak and the deserving in the area of education for scholarship/grants/loans towards meeting expenses of school/college fees, boarding and lodging charges
